Google Chrome operating system

It may be that in future when we buy a computer all we will be buying will be a box that has hardly any programs on it except what you need to access the internet: specifically a new system designed by Google called Google Chrome.
Google argue that computers take far too long to start up and that the space on your disk is taken up with lots of unnecessarily programs that we seldom or ever use and that have a capacity to go wrong. Their solution to this problem is to invent Google Chrome OS, an operating system that has the capacity to run on a "dumb" terminal, so that you would be able to buy a very simple computer that couldn't do anything else except access the interet (and all that that implies: videos, blogs, online probrams etc.)
All the functions of the programs that you might normally have on your computer could be replaced by online equivalents: for instance you can already use googledocs to store and edit documents online instead of using WORD.
This is a big step in the trend to store information and programs away from computer terminals and onto the internet, "the cloud." (see my earlier post) Many issues of trust are concerned by handing control of these programs and information to a remote provider and the debates rumble on.
