Watched a great video "Computer tour" that explained in three minutes what are the 7 major parts of a computer ie:
1) The motherboard –the heart of the computer -everything sits on this
2) The CPU – central processing unit (the brain)
3) The RAM – Random Access Memory sits on motherboard. You can add extra ram to speed up your machine.
4) The Videocard- connects to Motherboard with videocard slot. You can have 2 or even 4.
5) The Power supply
6) The Hard Disc – like a bookshelf that holds all your data
7) The Optical drive- reads CD’s or DVD’s
