MOOCs

I learned a new acronym recently, MOOCS, which stands for 'massive open online courses' (they combine e-learning and web 2.0 apparently). You can find out about them in a post here by Richard Downes, which is referred to in a post here on library trends in American research libraries by OCLC's Jim Mitchalko, (bottom line: American students are all broke and want to live at home) which is referred to in a tweet by @libraryjournal. (Do these people all know Kevin Bacon? I ask myself.)

According to a friend who studies at a nameless rival university just down the road, apparently they use MOOC's and Ellucidate (a VLE) there all the time . Now I just feel ignorant!
